On Saturday, while addressing a rally in Texas, Trump said that he would pardon the people who have faced criminal charges for their actions during the January 6 riot. Although he did not confirm that he would run for the 2024 elections, he suggested pardon outcomes would happen if he ran and won.Donald Trump said, “…if I run and if I win, we will treat those people from Jan. 6 fairly." Applause followed his comment. He continued saying, “We will treat them fairly. And if it requires pardons we will give them pardons. Because they are being treated so unfairly.”Trump was addressing his second rally this year, in Conroe, Texas. Hundreds of pro-Trump supporters had stormed the Capitol building. They ransacked offices, broke infrastructure and furniture, shouted violent slogans, reportedly said “Hang, Mike Pence” (who was the then Vice President), fashioned nooses and more. One police officer died after the riot. Four other Capitol officers committed suicide after the riot. About 140 police officers were injured for hours as they battled the violent surge of people who entered the Capitol. Four of the rioters also died in the siege. More than 700 people have been charged for taking part in the assault. Some of them have plead guilty. Trump and supporters had been reportedly pumping up a false narrative that the election had been stolen. Despite several cases being filed against the results of the November 2020 elections, before and after the swearing in of President Biden, all of them had been dismissed by several courts including the highest court in the nation. Yet, the false narrative continues. He also attacked prosecutors who have been investigating the Trump Organization for financial fraud.
