Recipients may also grow nodules, granulomas, or scar tissue around the tattoo over time. Nearly half of the tattoo inks used in the US may contain chemicals that cause cancer, a recent study says. 23 of the 56 common inks frequently used by American tattoo artists were found to contain potentially dangerous azo-compounds, according to State University of New York at Binghamton researchers who examined the inks.
