A person having a tattoo is already in danger of getting an infection from bacteria since the skin is broken, or they could develop hepatitis B or C if the equipment is not cleaned thoroughly. Recipients may also grow nodules, granulomas, or scar tissue around the tattoo over time. Nearly half of the tattoo inks used in the US may contain chemicals that cause cancer, a recent study says. 23 of the 56 common inks frequently used by American tattoo artists were found to contain potentially dangerous azo-compounds, according to State University of New York at Binghamton researchers who examined the inks.
